Maven's review system helps students make informed decisions about courses and provides valuable feedback to instructors. It's crucial to browsing students to see honest, authentic student reviews about courses and for Maven and all instructors to uphold the integrity of our review system.
โ
Overview
Student reviews are a critical part of the Maven experience. They help prospective students understand what to expect from your course and provide you with insights to improve your teaching. All reviews should reflect genuine, uninfluenced student experiences.
โ
How to Ask for Reviews
Encourage Honest Feedback:
Remind students to complete course feedback at the end of your program, either verbally during your final session or through written communication
Gate access to bonus content (such as alumni communities, extra office hours, additional resources, or supplementary materials) on submission of honest and transparent feedback
Follow up once with students who haven't submitted a review, using language that emphasizes the value of their honest perspective
Examples of Appropriate Asks:
"Please take a few minutes to share your honest feedback about the course"
"Your transparent review helps future students and helps us improve"
"Access to our alumni community is available after you've submitted your course feedback"
What You Can't Do
Authentic reviews help maintain trust in the Maven platform and ensure that prospective students can make informed decisions. When reviews are influenced or manipulated, it undermines the system and creates a subpar experience for students.
โ
Prohibited Practices:
Offering monetary compensation, gifts, prizes, or any form of payment in exchange for reviews
Requesting specific star ratings, ask for positive reviews only, or discourage negative feedback
Providing different treatment, support, or access to students based on the content of their reviews
Contacting students multiple times about review submission (limit to one follow-up)
Asking students to modify, revise, or remove negative feedback after it's been submitted
Suggesting what students should write in their reviews or provide guidance on review content
Encouraging students to contact you privately with negative feedback instead of leaving it in a public review
Asking students to reach out to you first if they plan to leave critical feedback rather than posting it directly
Examples of Inappropriate Asks:
"If you're planning to leave a negative review, please message me first so we can discuss"
"I'd appreciate it if you could leave a 5-star review"
"If you leave a 5-star review, Iโll give you a 1:1 consultation free of charge"
"Students who leave positive reviews get priority access to bonus sessions"
Enforcement
Violations of these guidelines may result in suppression of Maven marketing and/or removal from Maven's platform. We take review integrity seriously and investigate all reports of policy violations.
Additionally, Maven reserves the right to take action at our discretion for any behavior that undermines the integrity of our review system, even if it doesn't explicitly violate the guidelines listed above. We evaluate each situation based on its impact to student experience and platform trust.
Reporting Concerns
If you're a student who has experienced pressure to leave specific types of reviews or been asked to handle negative feedback privately, please contact Maven support ([email protected]) immediately. All reports are investigated confidentially.
