Expert Guide to the Student Growth Program

Written by Dani

The Student Growth Program (SGP) drives new students to your course or workshop through Maven-led growth initiatives. It is designed to align with Maven's premium brand while maximizing your earnings.

When you set your product’s price and publish on Maven, you're automatically enrolled in the SGP, but you can opt out by emailing [email protected].

How the SGP Works

The SGP has four pillars:

  1. Business-to-Business Sales

Maven’s business-to-business (B2B) sales are growing as companies look for high-quality, expert-led learning for their teams. This creates new opportunities for experts to reach companies and larger audiences, while giving businesses different ways to access Maven’s catalog based on their goals. As we continue to grow B2B, the model, discounts, and payout structure may evolve.

    1. Subscriptions & Partnerships: Subscriptions and partnerships give companies and reseller partners the flexibility to purchase seats for their employees or audiences and use them throughout Maven’s B2B catalog. This model works well for organizations who want to provide access to a range of courses.

      • Subscription and partnership sales are split 50/50 between instructors and Maven.

      • Each instructor’s share of earnings from the subscription payment pool is based on completed subscription enrollments in their cohorts, with adjustments for differences in format and length. Instructor pool earnings are paid quarterly.

    2. Private Cohorts: Private cohorts are a great fit for companies that want to bring a larger group together for a learning experience tailored to their organization’s specific goals and needs. Since private cohorts can involve several steps to reach a final agreement, bringing Maven into the process can help instructors close the sale.

      • If Maven is involved in finalizing the agreement (negotiating scope, seats, price, etc.), the negotiated cohort price is split 50/50 between the instructor and Maven.

      • If the instructor finalizes the agreement directly with the customer, Maven’s standard 90/10 fee structure applies.

      • Whether Maven or the instructor leads the negotiation, Maven can help with procurement, contract review, and vendor approval once the agreement is finalized.

    3. Team Discounts in Public Cohorts: Team discounts in public cohorts are a good option for smaller groups and companies looking to enroll employees in an existing public cohort. Discounts are applied automatically at checkout, or the Maven team can assist with an invoice.

      • Team purchases follow Maven’s standard 90/10 fee structure:

        • 90% of the discounted enrollment price goes to the instructor

        • 10% goes to Maven as the standard platform fee

      • Team purchases are discounted based on the number of seats:

        • 2–9 seats receive a 20% discount

        • 10+ seats receive a 25% discount

      • For larger group purchases, Maven may offer discounts of up to 30% off the individual seat price.

  2. Promotional Discounts
Maven may apply up to a 30% discount to any product you offer. Maven uses these for referral incentives, bulk purchase incentives, site-wide promotions, and editorial promotions such as “best-of” lists. Currently, we run site-wide promotions twice a year, and instructors are typically provided advance notice via email. We do not publicly offer permanent discounts.

👉 Example: Fee structure for a $1,000 course or workshop with 25% discount

    • Enrollment price: $750

    • Maven platform fee (10%): $75

    • Expert earnings: $675

  3. Paid Marketing
Maven may select your product for marketing initiatives that drive sales through paid and partner channels. Every initiative is funded upfront by Maven, operationally and financially. You will only see marketing fees when we deliver course sales.

For these initiatives, Maven may offer a 15% maximum discount, and affiliates receive a 30% commission on the net sale price of directly attributed sales. This is in addition to Maven’s standard 10% platform fee. Channels include, but are not limited to, affiliate marketing and paid advertising.

👉 Example: Fee structure for a $1,000 course or workshop with 15% discount, sold via affiliate

    • Enrollment price: $850

    • Affiliate fee (30%): $255

    • Maven platform fee (10%): $85

    • Expert earnings: $510

  4. Scholarships
Maven may offer up to two full scholarships to any course or workshop cohort. Maven uses these to drive word of mouth, in partnership with newsletters or influencers, for example. Additionally, one Maven team member can audit your course or workshop at a time.

Maven’s Student Growth Program, just like Maven overall, leverages our collective strength as a platform and brand, while maintaining the freedom for experts to run their unique and independent course or workshop businesses.

The SGP does not replace your personal marketing activities, which you will always be most suited to lead.

Opting Out

All courses and workshops are automatically enrolled in the SGP. During the annual opt-out window, instructors can contact Maven to opt out of SGP initiatives for the upcoming period.

2026 Opt-Out Deadline

To opt out of SGP for the remainder of 2026, email [email protected] by September 11, 2026. If you have already opted out, you’ll remain opted out for the rest of 2026 unless you choose to re-enroll. The opt-out deadline for 2027 participation will be announced in late 2026.

When you opt out, your opt-out takes effect at the beginning of the upcoming period and applies to new enrollments only; existing promotional commitments continue through completion. You’ll forfeit participation in all Program benefits described in this article, including but not limited to: B2B sales, promotional discounts, paid marketing, scholarships, and any future growth initiatives. Opted-out courses or workshops remain subject to Maven's standard 10% platform fee.

You may re-enroll at any point by emailing [email protected]. Once you re-enroll, your courses and workshops will be added back to the SGP immediately, and you won’t be able to opt out again until the next annual opt-out period.
